FMCSA Clearinghouse

The FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse is a federal database that records CDL drivers' drug and alcohol program violations — positive tests, refusals, and the driver's return-to-duty status. Carriers are required to query it before hiring a CDL driver and annually for each employed driver.

Why it matters when hiring drivers

The Clearinghouse closed the loophole where a driver with a positive test simply applied to the next carrier. For fleets, the pre-employment query is not optional diligence — it is a regulatory requirement, and hiring a driver who is prohibited in the Clearinghouse is a violation in itself.

Clearinghouse-relevant checks are part of the screening layer Call2Action automates.
