Indeed vs. Call2Action for CDL-A driver recruiting

Indeed is a job board: it puts a posting in front of a large audience and delivers applications. It does not verify that an applicant holds a CDL-A, has the experience you require, or will accept your route type — that work stays with your recruiters. Call2Action interviews and screens every applicant by AI first, so what reaches your team is a shortlist of vetted drivers rather than a queue of applications.

01

What Indeed does well

Reach, and it isn't close. Indeed is the largest job board in the world, and for hourly and high-turnover roles it is often the single biggest source of applications a fleet will get anywhere. If a driver in your market is actively looking, there is a good chance they are looking there.

For a fleet posting one opening a quarter, that is frequently enough on its own.

02

Where it falls short for driver recruiting

Reach and qualification are different problems, and a job board only solves the first.

CDL-A recruiting is unusually strict. A qualified candidate needs the right license class, the right endorsements, verifiable months of experience, a clean enough MVR and FMCSA record, and willingness to accept your route type and employment terms. An application on a job board establishes none of that. It establishes interest.

So the cost that matters isn't the cost of the application. It's what happens next: recruiters working through a list where most candidates were never eligible, calling numbers that don't answer, reaching people who applied to eleven other postings the same evening and don't remember yours.

Fleets describe the arithmetic the same way — the posting gets cheaper attention than the recruiter hours spent sorting what it produces.

03

What Call2Action does differently

Qualification happens before a human is involved, not after.

Every applicant is interviewed by AI within moments of applying — by voice, at any hour, in any language. The interview checks license type, CDL class, endorsements, experience and fleet driving history against your criteria. Candidates who don't meet them never reach your queue.

Everyone who passes goes through automated pre-employment screening: CDL verification, MVR, carrier history, FMCSA commercial safety records and drug test results, delivered as one report. Accepted drivers move straight into digital onboarding — 1099 and W-2 contracts, DOT documents, insurance, signed online the same day.

05 — The honest answer

When Indeed alone is enough

If you hire a handful of drivers a year, your requirements are broad, and you have recruiter capacity to work a list, a job board is a perfectly reasonable system. Volume is not a problem you have.

The picture changes for fleets running roughly 20 to 150 trucks, where seats turn over continuously, every idle truck costs money, and there is no dedicated recruiting department to absorb the sorting. That is the point where the constraint stops being reach and becomes qualification.

06 — Common questions

Common questions

Do we have to stop using Indeed?

No. Indeed solves distribution. The problems fleets describe — unqualified applicants, drivers who don't answer, candidates who don't remember applying — are downstream of it.

We already have a recruiter. Why add this?

The screening work is what a recruiter's day is made of. Running it automatically doesn't remove the recruiter — it stops them spending the week on candidates who were never eligible.
